Martha Vs. Macbeth

Martha Stewart and Macbeth are very ambitious people who want the most out of everything they do. They both had outstanding qualities and were remarkable people with huge accomplishments. They could have gone far in life if they had not been so greedy. They both had a tragic downfall which could have prevented if they had not been so power hungry.

Martha Stewart used dishonesty to try and further her accomplishments which lead to her down fall. Giving into media pressure also took a huge part in her downfall; A quote by Martha

"You'd leave that courtroom and more times than not there'd be a lot of photographers out there. And you'd have headings on a newsstand that you weren't supposed to look at. And little bits of conversation that you would hear on the subway that you weren't supposed to listen to. And yes, there was a buzz in the air about it."

"I have almost forgot the taste of fears.
The time has been my senses would have cooled
To hear a night-shriek, and my fell of hair
Would at a dismal treatise rouse and stir
As life were in't. I have supped full with horrors.
Direness, familiar to my slaughterous thoughts,
Cannot once start me"- Macbeth

Macbeth's downfall began when he started wanting to become King more than anything. Like Martha he wanted to further his accomplishments by any means possible. Towards the end of the play, he had committed so many evil acts that he no longer felt any remorse (view quote above.)

These two people are alike in many ways and met their tragic downfall because they let their power go to their head. Martha Stewart is an example of a modern day tragic hero, and Macbeth is the classic tragic hero. Greed, ambition, dishonesty and being power hungry, are all fatal flaws that these two people both possessed. Both were outstanding people and could've stayed that way if they had not let their flaws take over.
